Spilled alittle coffee on my PassPort, still works but: How long should I leave it in Rice?

Hi Everyone,

I spilled a little bit of coffee on the Screen of my Blackberry Passport today. And I quickly wiped it down cleaned it up. I checked and EVERYTHING is working just fine. Not even the White strip that is supposed to show water damage turned a diffrent color, its still white.

However the Lock button and Top volume button a little softer and dont have the same 'click' as before. They still work just fine, but it makes be think there there still a bit of moisture on the inside.

So just to be safe I turned the phone off and put it in a bowl of rice. My question is how long should I leave it on the bowl for? It wasn't SUBMERGED in coffee, but a good amount of coffee did spill on the screen and top of the phone, so I'm just being careful.

Whenever I use rice I leave it for 2 days.... better safe than sorry.... also was there any sugar in the coffee??? as that can be a major issues if coffee went into any openings....

No Sugar, just cream. Are you guys sure its 48 hours even if the phone was not submerged in liquid? its the only phone I have on me now I need my phone for the weekend.

And the white strip is next to the camera when you take the back piece off.

I read that rice doesn't work. I would turn it off and leave it off 24 hours

Rice worked quite well for me after dropping this very Z30 in the toilet. I didn't want to pay the deductible and it's still working just fine. I left it in rice for 2 days.

Clever way to get your friends to stop asking to borrow your phone..

Leave it for 6 months just to be absolutely sure.

You should check that source. While several testers found uncooked rice to be less effective than several other drying agents (oatmeal, cous cous, and cat litter to name a few), it does work. You'll probably find your source referenced a 24 hour test period - the prevailing suggestion here is 48 hours. I suspect rice became the universal cure because it's more readily available in many homes. The open air works, but surrounding the device with an absorbent substance (even shredded paper) usually works faster.

That's my $.02

One way (but doesn't help at all for BlackBerrys) for iPhones and Galaxys is they get better with 2 minutes in the microwave:)
