Staples have a dozen blackberry phones (refurbs) on sale. I am a farmer, never had a smart phone mostly a texter (pay as you go plan) but going to get small amount of data. Need a sturdy phone for field work which is hard on phones. Would like to get asap. Like the 9360, 8520, z10 but would appreciate opinions. Thanks

I'd say the Z10 since it has much greater potential to do more things than the others should you want to in the future.

It's extra sturdy on its own, but buy a decent case for it. Many stores will recommend an Otterbox Defender. Aside from being relatively expensive, Otterbox Defender for Z10 is an especially bad design that will hamper many people's use of the phone.

I'd recommend a Seidio Active (aka Seidio DILEX) or Seidio Convert.

All that said, if you really want simple and no bells and whistles at all, go for the Curve 9360 over the 8520.
Likewise, buy a sturdy case for the 9360 if you go that route. 9360 is a decent smartphone, it's just several years outdated.

This is supposed to be an unlocked phone and it lists the major carriers (ie bell), do you think this will work with pc mobile (whose provider is bell)?

It might but if it names a specific provider than I personally don't think it's unlocked. That being said, older phones are cheaper if not free to unlock online

I personally would get into a BB10 phone. I used the Z10 for over a year and loved it (upgraded to a Z30). The operating system is fast and smooth. The browsers is incredibly fast. The keyboard is tops for a touch screen. That said, if you are limited on data, and want a tough phone, nothing beats the BlackBerry legacy devices. I would lean towards a Bold 9900 or save a $100 and pick up the Bold 9700. Great for texting, email etc. Just stay away from the two they are offering with the track ball. (9310 and 9000).

I would say go for the bold 9900or if you want to save some money but the curve with otter box defender that case is built to protect.
