    My brother has a q10 on tmobile whenever I or anyone calls him we cannot hear him at all. Could it be that the phone itself is defective?

    The phone is deaf!

    Kiddin, there might be issue with the mic. Has he tried talking with the BlackBerry Assistant? If it works then there might be something wrong like other say he could've had tick on mute.

    Lol the phone is not on mute I'm at first we thought it was the network, he might have to switch to another phone if we can't get it to work.

    If he calls someone does it work?
    Can he use voice control?
    Try BlackBerry virtual expert and test the mic.

    If it's not the mic. Then network issue with phone. Maybe bad sim card.

    Last option try a security wipe. (be sure to back up first)
