New job - new phone! When I started my new job recently, I was given a Z30 and quickly fell in love with BlackBerry!
Privately, I am using a phone running Android 5.0.3. and am looking for an alternative given that this Android version does not allow me to restrict apps' privacy permissions. It freaks me out that apps are able to harvest virtually all the data on my phone.
Personally, I use my Android phone at the moment mostly for e-mailing, checking train timetables, navigation and taking pictures - things for which there are plenty of BB 10 apps or which alternatively can be accessed through a browser.
Getting a BlackBerry thus seemed like the best way forward given BB's reputation for security. However, now that BB 10 seems to be dying as an operating system, users will likely have to resort to running Android apps on their BBs.
Now that it is impossible to control the privacy permissions of Android apps running on BB 10, I wonder if by getting a BB 10 phone I would not be worse off in terms of privacy protection than by getting a phone running a newer version of Android that would allow me to control app permissions.
The Z30 seems a little heavy so I thought the Z10 might be a better option. I saw a new Z10 for 129 on ebay and less for a used Z10 (sorry, I am not interested in someone else's w***-phone!). I really like the DTEK50 which sells for 260, but is it worth the price?
I am really split between getting a (cheap) Z10, a pricey but future-proof DTEK50 or alternatively a cheap plain-vanilla Android device.
Just note that the Z10 battery is not the best. It is removable though which is a bonus. I am using a Z10 and have an extra battery handy just in case. Z10 with PureVPN auto connecting is my non Google security solution.
OK, if you really love the BB10 interface -- and knowing what others say here about the world of Android vs the world of BB10 -- then use the Z10. I have both Z10 and Dtek50. Much prefer (and am using) the Z10.
