I don't use the assistant, so I wonder if it's possible to bypass the assistant, when i tab on the magnifier and can go directly to the search (with kb popping up).

Go into setting and scroll down to "assistant" you'll have many choices how you want assistant to run!

You should try getting used to the assistant.
say I want to open email and send a message and it'll open it in a flash. I hardly ever use the keyboard for anything. the voice recognition is awesome!

    That really wasn't my question....

I know that I can set different options on how the assistant shell work, but I don't know how i could disable it and go back to the simple search function I used before...

I think you can turn off Full Assistance to disable BlackBerry Assistant and turn it into the good old Search

You could save time by searching the 'help' app on your phone. It will show you how to do everything you can do.

That's true. That all changed with the new OS. There doesn't appear to be a way to turn it completely off. I know ,on my Passport I can set any key to open any app.
Like I set "S" for search and I'm in search, not assistant! But then I can also just start typing on the home screen and it comes up with all kinds of choices.

I can't remember the limitations of the 9800 so i can only suggest what you might be able to do.
Wish i could be of more help, but hang in there. Someone will come along who knows how to handle your issue, if there is a fix!!

Your only other choice is to learn to love the assistant. Once you get that down you'll be addicted to it!!

The 10.2 search was much quicker. With 10.3 I didn't use it much because you have to click field to type (Z30) and then is much slower than on 10.2. I disabled assistant, but usability still much worse than 10.2. On 10.2 I used it all the time for search and quick commands.
I wish BlackBerry would give us old good 10.2 search once assistant is disabled.

I'm sorry to here about your issue!
Have you tried rebooting your device lately?

I'm running 10.3.2.2339 on my Passport and the voice recognition is awesome! 10.2.xxxx is old and had many issues that have been addressed and fixed.
If you're still having issues with 2339 installed.... YOU did something wrong. It's not the software, it's not the neighbors dogs fault.. It's because you didn't follow the directions.
Thousands of us members are enjoying this latest OS with no issues.

Hey we all make mistakes! You just have to be real on top of it!

I'd rather have 10.2 search back as well, it was super fast to actually search something. Assistant feels like it should be something completely different.

Even turning off Full Assistance doesn't help, it takes long to initialize, it's actually faster to go to an app and search within it instead of starting up Assistant and have it search

    It's nonsense

    I don't feel that problem.
I just press the magnifier and either speak or type.

Go to Settings -> BlackBerry Assistant -> Full Assistance

Turn it off to get back to the search capability

You know, it's absurd. I don't know how BlackBerry did it but for some reason they treat VKB differently than PKB. I mean, we can actually summon the VKB in the home screen, why can't we have PKB shortcuts like typing to automatically search?
