I have a ATT Passport... when I am on active call holding the phone to my ear the screen stays on and interactive... so I am constantly hitting the mute and other interruptions during my calls. How can I disable the the active screen while holding the phone to my ear?

Well obviously not since OP says his screen doesn't turn off automatically,
OP try blackberry virtual expert and see what it says

Occastionally I have the opposite problem....my proximity sensor functions (you can see the red blinking light) when NOT on a call, and it turns off the screen if my hand gets too close. A reboot always fixes this...so it might help you as well.

So I restarted the phone and it worked... then I was on the phone I used the power button to shut the screen off and now its the same problem all over again. The sensor is off.
