I don't think that should be happening. The display should turn off when held up to your ear during calls.

Hard reset your phone, by pressing volume up and down keys together till the BlackBerry logo starts loading

I have a feeling that you are the OP. Anyway, do keep the proximity sensor clean. If you think the screen is not getting turned off when held to the ear, run the tests mentioned in BBVE. You might need to send the phone to repair.
