On my BB classic phone there is no delete icon in text messages

Click on the overflow button (the three dots) and choose clear chat (deletes all messages but the conversation stays open) or end chat (deletes all messages and the conversation closes). You can also do the same from outside the conversation. From the hub, just click and hold on a conversation and choose end or clear chat.

If you want to delete single messages, click and hold on the message you want to delete, and hit delete.
