First things first, have you completed setup?
If so, navigate to the settings (easily done from the quick settings menu and tapping the cog), then look into the list for the 11th item (globe and keyboard icon) and change the language in the first drop down menu that you see
Just curious, but was this a new device? If so, where did you acquire it?

Interesting, just commenting so I could get some updates on this.
Nihongo dekimasu. I will have to see it to confirm it's truly kanji. You may have to call BlackBerry customer service to have them walk you through the screens to get where you need to be if the instructions in the second post don't help.
