it might have to stay in rice for much longer. Or in fact, it might be toast. Wait a while longer before turning it on. remove the battery?

Which BBerry? Obviously you have a better chance if it has a removable battery, and rice is hit or miss. If the water left particles, drying the phone may not help. I would try an electronic cleaner like QD. It goes on as a solution hopefully to wash away particles. Leaves no residue behind.
