What device do you have?
I have not tested miracast with that specific device, but have had good luck with some and bad with others.

You need to download an app (android) for that to work and run it through the app itself. That's why didn't buy it and instead bought netgear PTV3000. No app needed and works way better (and faster too).

I have a Passport, I think I'll return it and try and find another brand, these things aren't readily available in South Africa.

If the ezcast is Miracast compatible, you should not need any special software. Miracast is built in to BB10 and with passport all you need to do is to connect to it.
It is miracast compatible, says so on the box, but my Passport is just not picking it up, frustrating when BlackBerry can't work with so many things. So many applications needs Google play and it appears this thing too wants it.

If you do some research you will find that BlackBerry works just fine with most true miracast hosts. If your device require special software, its not a good device, so put blame where it belongs, and go get yourself a PTV3000 instead which works great.
About google play, the only way you will get that, is on devices that boots android. No other devices! So if that is what you need, then you need a new phone, thats how easy you can fix it.
Nope. Even though the ezcast is miracast compatible it uses a special app for it to work. Do a research on it.

No need to. I do research before I get things, not after. Thats why I use ptv3000 for my presentations many times pr week, and it works every time :)
Are you even getting what we're talking about? The ezcast not the PTV3000. The ezcast is miracast compatible but you need to dl an ezcast app for the streaming to work. Because you said that if it's (the ezcast) miracast compatible that it doesn't need a special software to make it work. Do a research on ezcast so you'd know it needs an app.
FYI I use netgear PTV3000 too. My brother has ezcast.

Of course, Everyone who got Ezcast has purchased the wrong thing (if used with BlackBerry 10) - since it rely on special software to work.. easy as that
For anyone looking for Miracast WiFi Certified products,
visit WiFi.org and wither browse your way, or search for specific vendors/products
BlackBerry 10 devices with Miracast, follows the standard and can be used with Miracast Certified devices
Just a Question to those passport and netgear users for miracast.
Do you get full screen on video? If so how. I am getting the small screen on my big screen

If you do the "play on" feature it will show as full screen on your big screen

Am torn between that PTV3000 and the Microsoft one. Although I'm leaning towards the Microsoft Miracast dongle ( http://www.tomsguide.com/us/miracast...view-2284.html ) because it's very portable and that's something I'm looking for in the product.
Have you tried or heard about the Microsoft one playing nice with BlackBerry devices?

Blackberry 10 should play nice with WiFi certified miracast hardware. If Microsoft thing is certified, then it should work, if not - then things will not work good 99% of the time. Easy as that
Ptv3000 is certified
I have both the PTV3000 and the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter and you won't go wrong with either of them. They both work on my Z30 and Passport. My preference would be for the Microsoft one as its more compact and a more elegant solution. I believe the Microsoft is a bit better in performance.

Thanks!
Just pulled the trigger on the Microsoft one because of your reply.

Do you need wifi for either device to work? I am looking for something that will play what's on my screen with using the hdmi cable.

Miracast use WiFi, most streaming will be direct WiFi between devices, but some adapters also require a WiFi network up and running
If all you want is to mirror screen or show some videos/presentations using wire, then
If it's a Passport or Classic you have, the you'll need a Slimport adapter to do HDMI output:
BlackBerry Online Store - SlimPort HDMI Adapter
If you have a Z10,Q10,Z30 - then you can use a microHDMI cable:
HDMI Cable Micro-HDMI, 6ft - ShopBlackBerry.com
I meant "without" using the hdmi cable. we don't have home internet and I want something that will work for my wife's phone as well as mine.
Since I use the Netgear PTV3000 myself, I can only answer for that one, and that works without any other WiFi networks set up. WiFi Direct being used directly from device to device
I have recently purchased the Microsoft one and can confirm that it doesn't need a wifi network; it's a true miracast device.
