    Only older versions will work with BB10 at this point

    You are talking about Facebook Messenger right? When I received my Passport it still had the native Facebook version installed, which works perfect, except for the chat portion. It is disabled. Not only you can't send messages, you can not even read your previous chats.
    It is disabled on the Facebook side, not the app itself.

    Install the Messenger lite apk for Android. Works great on my passport
