I am switching back to Blackberry after several iPhone years. I like the Q10. I went to a local small GSM carrier about getting a SIM for the Q10. He said the phone would not work correctly on his network due to the way information is handled with Blackberry.

Am I stuck with ATT or other large carrier with the Q10. None of the ATT stores near me carry the Q10 and online they are asking almost twice what I can buy an unlocked version on Amazon. I travel to Europe a few times each year so I'd like a phone I can just swap Sims.

Any one have some ideas of how I can get started using a GSM Q10?

    Thanks

I'd question that carrier again, just to make sure they weren't thinking about the BIS service that is used on legacy BlackBerry devices (OS7 and under)
BB10 doesn't use BIS, it uses the carrier's internet.

^This. When you said 'BlackBerry,' they must have automatically thought 'special data plan that we don't offer,' when in reality, the Q10 and other BB10 phones don't require BIS, and work just fine with "generic" data plans.

Yeah, just get a standard plan, tell the guy it's for an android phone.

Then get the sim, pop in your Q10 and off you go.

Keep in mind to check the bands the carrier uses and the band's on your Q10 model to make sure they are compatible for sure.
