What is the last ditch technique??
Posted from my SQW100-1
In relation to a BlackBerry device this normally refers to a full factory reset.
It completely wipes your device of all user data and apps, resetting the device to an "out of the box" state with whatever current OS you are running.
Use this as a last resort in attempting to track down a software bug or if you are having issues reviving a dead or damaged device.
It's also not a bad place to start either....
Please give us more information to help us help you.
My phone(Z10) is completely dead due to some liquid damage, according to the FAQs the last ditch technique is mentioned

How long ago did it get wet?
If very recent, see my post on attempting to recover from water damage:

If it has been awhile, or you have already dried it out properly and it is "dead", please advise just how "dead" it is.
What is it doing and what is it not doing.
It's not turning on at all, and it's been a while it was working for 3 days after a day in rice, one day it switched off never to switch on again

If you are tech savvy, you can try opening it up to see if there is obvious water damage or corrosion.
If present, time for a new device :(

Problem I don't have the size of the torx needed

I'm guessing that it turned on while it was still wet.
In that case, it's shuffled off the mortal coil. It is an ex-Z10.

Not sure you really need to take it apart to know it dead......
But I've seen post where someone tries a year later and their old phone works...... but I've also heard that some people actually win when they go to Vegas.
I have seen this online, and never tried it.
If your phone is dead, I guess it couldn't really make it any worse...
I have been told that soaking your phone in alcohol helps recover it from water damage.
I believe the alcohol acts to clean any corsion on the internal parts, and alcohol evaporates away quickly.
I have never tried it, but if your phones toast any way... try it.

The whole phone or just the internals?

Just drop the whole thing in.
Only do this as last resort. Because I cannot say if it works or not, because I've never tried. But I suppose if the phones completely dead tho, it can't hurt, right?

Clean the Z10 and your whistle....
Might not fix the Z10, but you pretty much will not care :)
