Now after reset I cannot get my contacts or notes written earlier back even after copying all previous data to mobile. Is there some .key file that needs to be copied back to the correct location?

Doing a factory reset will remove all your personal data from your Classic.

What exactly do you mean by "copying all previous data"?

The simplest way to ensure that you always have a current backup of your contacts is to use a Cloud account like GMail or Outlook.com.

Yes, How exactly did you copy data from phone? And How you are trying to get it back on your phone? Also quote error messages, if any.
