Is it possible to prevent calendar appointments from displaying on my lock screen?

you'd have to make every single appointment as a private appointment. that's the only way right now

P.S. My suggestion turns off all events, of course. The aforementioned suggestion is probably what you're looking for.

This doesn't turn off calendar events, they are still displayed. It only disables interactive notifications.

I don't know how to stop it from showing the events. But if you want your lock screen to be clear, just delete these events by going to Setting => Account => Facebook (or Gmail or any account that you sync events) and you switch Sync Events to Off. Hope this will help you a bit
