I am showing online in viber and can open and read messages see pictures etc but have no wifi connection or data plan. At the same time Whats app does not even receive sent messages. Any ideas

Well now that's strange...but you're connected the cellular network or not?
Can you open new message though? Ask a friend to send you a message and see if you able. Most likely they are old messages as they are already download to your phone
