On your Playbook open your Hotmail through the browser. Scroll down and select Desktop. At your email scroll below the pictures (you don't need to open them) and select 'Download all as zip.' Name it whatever. You'll then see them in File Manager. Exit from there and go to the Pictures app on your Home Screen. The pictures will be in their own Album under the name you gave it.
This also works for Gmail. On its desktop site the download arrow is just above and to the right of the attachments in the email.
I used to be able to add more pictures to any existing Album this way by giving the new pictures the same Album name, then tapping replace on the subsequent message -- it didn't delete what was already in the Album, just added the new pics to it. That doesn't seem to work anymore and the new pictures just save in File Manager and don't get added into the specific Album which remains as it was. The new pictures just end up in the big All Pictures Folder.
There is a file size limit on hotmail and gmail which you could say might be 25 or so average pictures. That many attachments will be slow loading, though.
