Sprint is a CDMA carrier and the 9900 is the GSM version of the 99 series. You need a 9930 to work with Sprint's network, and further you're likely to need a Sprint branded one in order to have them provision the device to their network.

Do you mean a Sprint branded 9930? If so you will need to contact Sprint and get a BB data plan added to your account as BlackBerry's prior to the Z10 (BB10 devices) require a special data plan, called BIS service. Once you have the correct plan it SHOULD just work, but if not then you will need to Register your device, Go to the Options Wrench, select Device, then Advanced, then Host Routing, then press the BB button and select Register Now.

I was told by Sprint in the past that the Verizon GSM versions will not work on the Sprint network. Not because of the radio but the carrier software that comes pre-installed. That being said i find that the guys in the stores do not always know or tell you accurate information. Good luck
