Hello and welcome to CB. Content protection from what?
Need to disable device encryption. If you have an IT policy on the device and it is actually attached to a BES, then you are essentially SOL.
IF I delete the work account from my phone which I loaded using MS exchange server, will the IT policy be removed??

When you say work account are you talking a BES or just your work email?
Just work email BUT when I loaded it using MS Exchange, a whole whack of security requirements automatically was added to my phone.
Super annoying.
Lost picture password option entirely
AND my memory card has been encrypting for over 3 days now and still going.

What device management are they using? If there isn't any there should be no IT policy.
I didn't load using the work email option to load so not sure.
Let's say it is BES, if I delete the account will it release all the policies?

I'm not up on BES. But if it is won't you be in trouble?
The phone is mine not theirs...
I'm actually peeved they loaded and changed all my settings automatically.
If I log in using webmail using the same credentials, there are no changes to my phone. I wanted push emails as it is more convenient. Didn't realize convenience has this as a cost.

If it's not a BES or other management system like good or mobile iron or? And its just email access it shouldn't do anything to your phone. Why don't you ask your IT department?
Yes, I will!
