There are plenty of native translate apps. Many free. The Google one probably needs google services. Which means you'll need to search up cobalts services to find a way around it.

Note: That's not where I downloaded mine from; I just haven't updated mine with Snap as it seems to be working fine. (I'm not in the habit of updating something 'just because'.

^ It's not where I downloaded it from but it IS the same version that's working fine on my Passport.

The reason it doesn't work properly is because whenever you want to type in English you actually have to tap on Keyboard icon and choose keyboard instead of writing recognition. Then you can type normally without interruption.

For some weird case this is only required for English language. In all other languages you can type from the get go.
