Her loss, I guess. Windows 10 will be out in a couple of months and will be free to everyone on a PC with 8.1, it's a vast improvement over the much maligned W8. She should have an invite to reserve her copy of 10, it should be on the bottom right tool bar where the time and other info is, looks like the Windows "flag" logo hat used to appear on the start screen.
I bought my wife a new MacBook Pro in September of last year and we've never been able to run Link or Blend from it, she does all her updates and upgrades on my PC. Same was true with her previous MacBook.
I had Windows 8 on my PC and hated it too. So, I took my computer to a repair shop, and had Windows 7 put on it and I am much happier with it.
Everyone hates Win 8 they did such a disservice to Microsoft. I have 7 on my desktop and 8 on my surface. Unfortunately my sister bought a MacBook and I'm trying to keep her from making the biggest mistake of her life which is to buy an iPhone. Kill me now! So hoping I can get Blend and either have her load MS office 365 on to the MacBook. I think her real issue is to use the cloud and sync from either Office 365 or iCloud. Any thoughts on iCloud other than its ridiculous insecurity? Thanks everyone!

You can't make her want to stay on a PC, especially if she already bought a MacBook. She is already moving to Apple.
I use Windows 7 at work, so I have it also on my home PC. I like to be using the same system for work and personal use. I can take my work home if I need to finish a project.
Does your sister use computers at work?
Then there's always the lack of security issue....
Zero-day exploit lets App Store malware steal OS X and iOS passwords | Macworld
Hi TG1
I share your pain and frustration concerning using Windows 8. And as the self-appointed IT tech support guy for my family and friends Ive had to not only deal with me getting along with this OS but for others as well.
The problem is that for everyone who buys a new PC, is comes with Windows 8.1 so it seems as though there are just two possibilities. One, replace the OS with Windows 7 (pricy and not for the faint of heart) or learn to work with Windows 8 (a royal pain). But there is one other choice that Ive found that is both easy and inexpensive. That choice is to install a menu program called Start 8 from Stardock (Bing Start 8) which effectively not only brings back the Windows 7 start menu but also boots the computer to the desktop mode and disables the side charms. And like the Windows 7 menu you can pin programs to it as well. The result is that if you did not know that you had Windows 8 you would think that you are running Windows 7 and would be hard pressed to prove otherwise. It literally takes your computer from the frustrating back to the familiar. And the best part is that the cost, only $4.99 US. And if you like you can try it for free for 30 days and see for yourself.
I would like to also mention that I dont have any ties to this software company, Im just a happy customer that has seen for myself and others just how useful this add in can be. Give it a try. You might learn to like Windows 8 very quickly.
Install classic shell o windows 8 problem solved. Also make sure to be on 8.1

Second vote for Classic Shell: 100% free and gives you a functional Windows start menu in Windows 8. Also like Dave said, be sure you're also running Windows 8.1 which also gives you the option to boot to the desktop.
What specifically would you like to know?
For what it's worth, the official versions of Blend worked fine between my MacBook and Z10. But I can't seem to get the latest Blend beta to work properly.
I like Win 8.1 and think the "problems" with it are primarily psychological. My wife, who is no computer nerd, had no issue moving from 7 to 8.1. One day and she had embraced the "metro" menu. Have no idea how working with this OS is a "royal pain". Also think many of the primary menu changes are better than 7 which was a hold over from XP. FWIW...
Changes are the royal pain for me. It makes my work more difficult, such as using MS Office 2013. I was faster with 2010, but we were forced to use the newer version, as well as Outlook 365. Its slower, and buggy and makes me want to break my computer.
Once a person is familiar with an OS, its not fun to change.
Office 2013 is phenomenal compared to 2010... change is good, hard for some but it's much more intuitive for me anyway
Office 2013 is a little different, but the biggest change in functionality I found was to change the background colour from white to dark grey, which gave me a much better contrast on the menus.

Most 8.1 users should be getting the 'reserve' your free Windows 10 upgrade icon on the task bar. Not sure if Windows 10 will be that much better, but the fact that the start menu is back is enough reason to try it for me.

I got the invite a few weeks ago on my W8.1 laptop which wasn't such a big surprise, but I also just got it on my W7 machine too. Will test it out on 8.1 first and decide if it's worth upgrading the older computer from there. You're right about the Start Menu!

I'm on the same boat. Not sure what to do about old reliable Win 7 machines. Also, not sure how much I trust their 'your machine is ready for Windows 10' compatibility test for older hardware.

To answer part of your question, what email system does she use now?
That is going to make all the difference in the world. We can not answer the question until we know that.

Thanks JHANKS - so she is using the Mac email client - when I tried to add it I was provided with a list of options like Google, Yahoo, Exchange, etc. I tried to add it through Exchange but no luck sso I told her she will need to call her ISP to set up the email client vs. using the icloud email address. I was able to get BlackBerry Blend working well on the Macintosh client as well as Caldav for BlackBerry Z10 syncing with her Mac calendar. So that is all working and I was able to get her icloud email on to her Z10 and all synced with Blend. So other than her company email on her Macintosh email all is good. Thanks for everyone's help!!
