Hello,
Attachment 285968
1) If I have 4 e-mail accounts set up on my Z10 - all set to refresh at 24 hours and with push set to ON --- > would it then help reduce data usage if set my e-mail to be forwarded through a single account (all through Gmail for example) and then have that single account set up on the Z10?
Would this reduce data use? Or wouldn't it make any difference as the number of e-mails would stay the same?
Na. You'd still get the same use use. The emails would still come in and still "weight" the same. You'd probably save on battery though, as the device would have to worry about only one querry instead of four.
2) any particular tips and tricks for data use reduction on the Z10? I am referring to something beyond minimizing the interaction between my accounts and the net and using wireless. Any particular "secret" settings?
Besides stay on WiFi and turn data off when you don't need it? Have wide sync/pull/refresh intervals. If you don't need instant notifications, turn them to manual or off entoirely (I'm looking at you, CB10 app!).
3) Any data compression that is usable on the Z10? Example: on Android it is said that Opera would compress info from websites and THEN show it on your phone. I know BIS is dead, but any options (like Opera) on the Z10?
I absolutely love the Z10, there's just three issues with it:
You can sideload Opera (android). Not that it will be much better though. Keep off Desktop Mode in the browser and you should have a lot lower data comsumption when browsing.
1) it uses up data like it's crazy. Now, my previous Android phone didn't have my e-mail accounts/twitter/facebook on it, but still, the Z10 uses MUCH more data compared to my old phone. (I can barely manage with 800 MB/month and I am a regular (not business) user - but e-mail (just receiving 40 e-mails per month) and twitter reading/posting are killing me)
Actually, it doesn't. It's just like any other phone now. You're just not used to it (as you said yourself, no FB/Twitter/etc.). It could be your old phone was stuck on low speeds. The Z10 is a 4G device and 4G is fast fastsy so you end up eating through your data plan a lot faster than you would on 3G/HSPA+.
2) Battery life is not great, especially with cellular data ON you can barely get 1/2 or 2/3 of a day.
Usually a symptom of a phone doing too much while it should be sitting idle. The expected duration of a charge is around 10 hours. Widen your refresh rates, close apps that you don't need, make sure there are no rogues (apps going nuts in the backgroun or trying to refresh per second), turn off things you're not using. you should be able to get 8-12 hours doing this.
ONE MORE THING! If your signal strength is below 3 bars, expect the battery to plummet, as the device will be doing twice the work - the usual + desperaty looking for better signal.
3) No FM radio.(other forms of radio would require data connection).
Yeah, get a Z30 or a Q5. Nothing else to do.
I love the Z10 and the only phones I would replace it with would be the Z30 or the Passport (depending on whether it would get good reviews).
I wish there were an OS10 based affordable tablet as well. Keyword - AFFORDABLE.
Q5?
Overall, I am happy with BlackBerry's services and I've become a fan, just wish that they will still continue to cater to the regular consumer instead of focusing just on enterprise as the rumors/news seem to imply they would do.
