Yesterday I removed all the double entries from my contacts. Today all the double entries are back.

What is going on and how do I fix this major issue?

Use synced sources only. Copy all local contacts to a Gmail or Outlook or some synced contact list. Then take your email account off your phone. You'll be left with just the local contacts. Delete them all. When your list is clear, load back on your email address and synced contacts. Bam. One source of contacts, with one manageable list.

That almost worked. I deleted all the entries and then sync'd Outlook's contacts to the Q10. Unfortunately I have 300 entries in Outlook and only 189 were sync'd to the Q10. Any suggestions?

Are some of those contacts one with no name, but just a business name?

Another painstaking option is to make sure the synced contact have the same info.

Un link the contacts. Then look at the synced contact. Such as facebook or Gmail. Then compare to your local contact. Edit the local contact to be exactly the same.

Ex: mike for Michael. Or +1 in front of phone. Or personal vs other e-mail.

Such a pain. But it worked for me. Also seem to have less problems with 10.2....

Be sure to edit the local contact only. Also I deleted my sim contacts which helped

I vote don't have local contacts. None. Used synced services only.

Some are, but the majority are first and last name and company name. I should also add that the duplicate entries just show up without the Q10 being sync'd with the computer.

I'm thinking that I will simply add the missing entries (time consuming) and never connect the device to the computer again.

I miss my 9900, it never caused me the grief that the Q10 has since I've had it. No duplicate entries, no multiple letters when typing. I've had to correct at least one word in every sentence for the last year. It certainly isn't worth the hassle it has become.

Ah. I misunderstood. Your Outlook contact source is outlook the program or Outlook the web-server?

Ok. In that case, and having lots of experience organizing people's contact lists thanks to my profession, I can say that Outlook contacts is going to give you grief, pretty well on whatever device you use. The best way to manage your contacts will be to use a synced service; namely, Gmail, Outlook.com, Yahoo.com. Exporting your contact list as an excel document, and then importing that list into a service like Gmail, and then signing into Gmail on your phone, will give you the best results; not to mention it will remove the need to connect your phone into BB Link to sync stuff.

They are the contacts that are saved on the device's internal memory. As an example, I have multiple sources of contacts: a Gmail account with most of my personal stuff, and Outlook.com account with work stuff, a second Outlook.com with junk stuff, Facebook, LinkedIn, Skype and BBM. Since all my contacts are saved and sourced from other web services, I see no need to save a contact on my actual device memory; since it would just be a copy of a contact that I have saved and organized elsewhere.

Well after removing every contact manually from my Q10 and eight hours of entering every contact again things seemed to work well. That is until today when I opened the Contacts and found various entries under "A" that ranged from D to V. Opening each one, I discovered that only the names in the Contact list had changed, the names in the the entry were exactly what they should be, I went to edit the entry and simply hit Save and the list showed the correct person's name.

    Puzzling, eh?
