    my phone's unlocked but since it's my first time updating the os, i'm not sure if it'll lock my carrier or it will keep it unlocked

    The OS will not lock your phone. Are you doing the update OTA? I would recommend doing it manually for better results. Follow the guide in my signature.

    Loading, upgrading or downgrading, using leaked or official, or a mix-n-match of OS files does not change a devices carrier lock or unlocked status.
    An unlocked device stays unlocked.
