    Hello!

I'm aware I can hide contacts when I list them in the contact application, however is there a way I can remove Facebook or Twitter contacts being added at all?

When I go to send an email, type in a name in an SMS, etc all contacts (including Twitter and Facebook) appear, which is really frustrating. The only solution I have so far is to delete the relevant application, which isn't much of a solution at all.

    Cheers!

You can delete the accounts from your device (Settings, accounts). Then add them back without syncing the contacts from each.

That does turn off the contacts in the email app, unfortunately. Ellesar stated the correct process in his response.
