So we are dealing with an addiction to porn and are trying to make it so the internet can't be used. We talked with verizon and they blocked the data but then their "always on data mode" turned on and data works now. They say that this mode can't be turned off or blocked. Parental controls apps for the storm don't seem to exist or don't work. App lock apps can be deleted.

So i'm left with one last go. I'm wondering if in the software of the blackberry storm there is a way i can go in an erase some code or something (forgive my ignorance) that would prevent the phone from connecting to data? Anyone have any ideas? I am not familiar with blackberries. Any help would be REALLY appreciated.

Otherwise I will be going back to AT&T with a feature phone we have. We know they can block data with feature phones.

When I was young and had BBOS phones I had an email only plan. I don't know if such is available now. At that time I didn't know of any way to disable data effectively. I'd like to hear if anyone knows different though.

    Behold, my thumbs have spoken.

In the instance you've mentioned OP, likely your only option would be to replace the handset with a flip phone or other device that has only a voice connection.

Sounds like your issue is that you are on a BlackBerry BIS plan. You could switch to a regular smartphone Talk & Text plan with no data. You would loose your BlackBerry BIS mail but you can setup email by installing the Logic Mail app from BlackBerry World.

So all we did was call verizon and had them activate the phone for a prepaid plan. But your right, when I look at phone connections it does say i'm connected to BIS. How could I unconnected from that?

Even if you drop the data... would they be able to access a Wi-Fi connection somewhere?

Think a feature phone is the best option, but only part of the solution.

You would have to tell them that you don't want a special plan that is only for BlackBerry phones.

Tell them you want a standard Talk & Text Plan with no data, just like other smartphones use.

You need to have BIS active to have email / bbm services.

Since you can't delete the browser , try deleting the service books for the browser.

I literally just thought of this 5 min ago. thats what i'm thinking about doing. I was also thinking about hooking it up to my computer to see if the browser is in the hidden files and deleting it that way. That way he couldn't re-download the service books (though unlikely he'd do that)

    Ok.

Did not know it would automatically update service books.

Try deleting browser through BB desktop software.
If you can't , then you would have to see your provider to get rid of the data. ( BIS )
( And only keep the cellular side active )

I didn't get a usb cable with my BB and the ones i have don't seem to be the right kind because the BB desktop software doesn't recognize it.
As far as the provider goes i think the data is just running through verizon. under BIS is now says disconnected but the browser still works.
