    It is because it will take a while, and if the phone dies while it's updating, you are really not gonna like what'll happen.

    Not if you have sufficient battery power to survive the update. But if your battery is below 20%, then you must connect it to the charger.

    I never assume that everything will go according to plan, you should always have power hooked up while updating. If something hangs, you don't wanna be freaking out knowing that the power is about to run out.
