Grrrr! Finally got things set up with an HP laptop using windows 8.1. BlackBerry link loaded fine, but when I try to connect my phone, it shuts down my Internet and/or freezes/crashes my system and then can't read the phone driver when restarted. Help! I want my info backed up on my phone!

Windows 8.1 is not recognizing all the drivers for BBlink.
You need to go into the Advanced Boot Screen and enable "accept unsigned drivers."

It's a bit tricky to find the Advanced Boot Screen in 8.1 Do a "google" and you'll find step by step instructions.

Reinstall BBlink "as administrator" ( by right clicking on the EXE file) and you should be good to go!

I have an old laptop running XP. I'll back it up on that- what a disappointment that BlackBerry drivers aren't all recognized. Sigh. Thanks so much for the help!

What part of this EASY FIX don't you understand?

Not only have I helped countless people with their device issues for countless years, but i also, custom build and repair computers.
The fact that you didn't "get" it the first time and reverted backwards is anything BUT perfect!
Why not just DO IT RIGHT!!!

It's a Windows problem not Blackberry. for some reason the problem lies within what version of 8.1 you have on your PC.
Also, Some anti-virus programs interfer. so disabling your virus software may help!

But going back to XP (which is no longer supported by Microsoft) or reverting back to Windows 7 is not the answer either.
You're gonna have to do it the right way sooner or later!!

My guess is the OP is using a USB3 port. Try USB2. I have replicated the very same issue when trying to use USB3. With updates from Microsoft, I no longer have that issue.

If anything... there were MORE issues with Windows 8 and Link. I installed AND run Link just fine on my 8.1 laptop which syncs my work Q10. A lot of pressing issues have been corrected in 8.1

Probably not the issue but ensure you have the latest version of BB Link as well.

First off, being insulting to someone when they are asking for help is rude. I've just had surgery and due to medication, processing certain terms is taking a lot more thought time. I'm NOT a computer tekkie so what you find easy, takes me a hour to comprehend. I figured out a few things about BlackBerry link for windows 8.1 - I'd rather not risk crashing my computer AND phone. I tried to find what some people suggested and had no luck. So excuse me while I take my time in healing from surgery and will look at this again.

Ps- every time I go onto BlackBerry link, it shuts off both Internet accesses. Why? I'm using the usb port 2 btw.

No dice. Still same problem. Freezes, shuts down computer and tells me a DPC watchdog violation. I will use my old laptop untill BlackBerry decides to fix this issue (for backing my phone up).

Perhaps it's an issue with HP? Hard to know.

Update: after refreshing my system back to windows 8, I then reinstalled 8.1. This worked. I wwas able to update my HP drivers and viola- blackberry link now works on my computer! Backed up my phone tonight. Not sure if a new SIM card could also help- I did noticed the one ethernet port had issues (on my system). Switching to the other solved that problem.
