BlackBerry can be turned off?! I thought it will only if you pull out the battery (unless it's non-replaceable one).

Shutdown, and restart. Just like a PC. Since BlackBerry 10

[QUOTE=Dave Bourque;11184391]Seems to be working as it should. When it's on there's no light, just the lighting bolt notification.

Just tried it again with the battery at 97% - plugged it in as before - but no green light this time and no yellow light indicating charging is occurring. Basically, a whole lot of nothing. Dave, would you return this phone to the store or is there a solution out there somewhere?

I think you shouldn't waste time with this issue if everything else is working correctly. It's charging anyway right? If you believe that you can quickly get a replacement you should probably do so but to me it seems too early to call it. I mean you had it light up while off so it's working in some cases.

Have you tried hard reset? Hold the volume buttons for more than 10 seconds.

I'm using the charger that came with the phone, bought new yesterday. Seems to fit in just as well as my Bold charger and device. There haven't been any pop-ups warning about using an inappropriate charger. I have no blinking LED whether the phone is on or off while charging. Thanks so much for your input.
Just want to throw out a warning here for all the folks switching from Bolds (or before) to the Classic. While the charger tips are all standard usb/microusb,.. BB10 devices have a larger battery (and consume more power), and thus are shipped with a higher current (mA) rated charger. Using old chargers may work, but it will be slower and eventually may kill the charger.

As others have said,.. leave your device on while charging. It will help the device manager track and calibrate your battery and charging source. Either silence all alerts (by holding down the Q (for "quiet")) key, or use bedside mode (dragging down the little tab with the moon shaped icon that drops down from the top when you first plug in the charger).

Yes do not use chargers that aren't meant for bb10. BlackBerry premium charger is the one I use for my Z10 and that came with the PlayBook. Classic can also use it. Charges my Z10 in about 1 hour from near 0.

I believe there's nothing wrong with your phone.
If you're concerned, use BlackBerry link and reload your OS.
Then give it a day and see how it is.

Again, with BlackBerry 10 you can leave your bad habits behind. These phones work better when you don't reboot them all the time

My Classis doesnt charge when its turned off as well. It will be in my opinion a general problem of the Classic or of the OS.

Charging when the device is OFF: Slow-blinking AMBER light means charging is ongoing; steady GREEN light when battery is FULL.

Charging when the device is ON: Flashing "bolt" inside the battery outline on the top left corner of the screen means charging is ongoing; three lines on the left side of the battery indicator (also no flashing "bolt") means battery is FULL.

Same problem here. On the Q10, when switched off, amber flashing LED means charging, solid green LED means fully charged.

On the Classic, when switched off, it does not charge at all.

I would just like to know if that is a feature or if something is different with my device and it is working for anybody else with a Classic.

I am using the charger that came with the device.

There have been other Classic users reporting the same issue. It seems something isn't right with the Classic or 10.3.1. I think it might have more to do with the OS version.

Isn't this an OS bug? Seems there were posts abut this before.

My classic charges while it is off. I had other issues that I was able to resolve by reloading the OS.

    This is a known issue:

KB36594-BlackBerry Classic smartphone does not charge when powered off

This is a software issue that will be addressed in an upcoming update to the BlackBerry 10 software.

Until this update is available, to recharge your device when it has run out of battery life, perform the following:

Connect the charger, that is plugged into an outlet or computer, to the BlackBerry smartphone.
Turn on the BlackBerry smartphone by pressing the Power key for 1-10 seconds, until the LED turns red which will initiate charging.
Once the LED is red, the Power button can be released and the device will begin charging.
