With my Bold, I turned it off for the night and then plugged in the charger. No problems.

Am I doing something wrong then? With the Bold when I turned it off and plugged in the charger, I got a flashing light indicating that something was happening. With the Classic, if I plug it in turned off I get nothing... no indication that charging is taking place. And of course when I check it in the morning, my battery power is at the same low level.

Does the yellow light come on to indicate its charging?

No, I don't get any light when the charger is plugged in and the phone is turned off.

U check your power socket, first charge the phone when its on, if charging switch it off and see whether lights are blinking or not?

Thanks helalzone, but still no lights blinking with the charger plugged in - whether the phone is turned on or off. The only thing I get is the tiny lightning bolt in the top left corner of the screen when the phone is on and charging.

The tiny lightning bolt is the indication of phone getting charge, so your phone is getting charged, u see your battery percentage and put it to charge for 30 minutes and see your battery percentage again,

How do I see the battery percentage? It seems to come and go and I don't know what I'm doing to get it to appear (or disappear).

Which charger are you using? Have you seen a little message pop up saying something along the lines of using a charger that is made for this device?

I purchased a wall wart charger from Amazon and even though both the cable and charger have the BlackBerry logo, I'm not sure they aren't Chinese knock offs. Though, if the cable sits just right it will charge. Loose cable?

When the newer devices are turned off and charging, you will see the LED blinking. It won't blink if the phone is on (for charging purposes).

I'm using the charger that came with the phone, bought new yesterday. Seems to fit in just as well as my Bold charger and device. There haven't been any pop-ups warning about using an inappropriate charger. I have no blinking LED whether the phone is on or off while charging. Thanks so much for your input.

    helalzone,

I started with 80% power. After 30 minutes of charging (with the phone turned on of course), I am at 99%. What does that tell us? Should I take the phone back to the store over this?

When the phone is on there is no charging led. Only the lightning bolt. When it's off there is usually a yellow led indicating it's charging.

Seems very strange it isn't working, any reason why you turn off your phone at night? This isn't your old bold 9900 anymore, you never need to turn off this phone unless you have some sort of problem

    Hi mad_mdx,

I guess you're right - I have no real need to turn off the phone at night. I can set all the alerts to silent at bedtime. I only turn it off so I'm not awakened by any late night calls. It's more an issue of spending good money on something that isn't working as it should.

New development... I plugged in the charger with the phone turned on and got the usual lightning bolt but no other light. Then I turned off the phone using the power button at the top of the device. Now I have a solid green light on the top right - where I was expecting the flashing yellow light to be, letting me know it is charging. I'm assuming that, like the Bold, a solid green light means the phone is fully charged. I know the device is not charged as I checked it literally moments ago and it was at 95%. What do I do next?

I just unplugged the phone from the charger and turned it on and... it says I have 100% power! How could I have gone from 95 to 100 in approximately 2 minutes? I'm ready to pull my hair out - this weekend has been a write-off over this stupid phone.

Seems to be working as it should. When it's on there's no light, just the lighting bolt notification.

I don't understand what the problem is... it's fine. Do normal cycles of charging better to plug it in before almost 0%. 10-20

BlackBerry can be turned off?! I thought it will only if you pull out the battery.
