on my previous z30 i was able to select a mp3 file as a ringtone or notification. My current blackberry Priv is running android version 6.0.1 and the only option I have for ringtones and notifications are the default tones that came with the phone

Yes, you can. But you do have to put those mp3's in the Ringtone and/or Notifications folder on the Internal storage. Then they'll appear in that list of available tones.

Of course. You just need a file manager which can do that, e.g. Total Commander. Most others can also do it.
