Now I'm logged in :) and have more details
The above is a laptop on Windows 7. It has neither Blend nor Link installed. I have "uninstalled" a previous version of Blend, and also used MS Fixit but it found no registry problems and so Blackberry's Desktop Install s/w should find a clean system to run on? I also tried installing from a user account, user as asmin, and from admin account, but all failed.
I also use another laptop still running XP (love the stability). I have Link installed on it, and would like to run Blend but am afraid that if I try to install it, then link won't work. Also, that Link runs only on wifi, so I can't backup my device, which requires a USB connection (see below).
On both, every time I connect my Z30 through USB, I try to select the "install drivers" option through my Z30 but neither OS recognizes ther device and both do not install any drivers.
I dunno, I really liked the Z30 when I got it in 2014 (switched from iphone), but it seems like Blackberry is NOT supporting its devices, software, and most important of all, its die-hard customers, sorry for the movie reference, but it is Christmas :)
For what they seem to be branding themselves, a software company, the software I have been using isn't great and all signs point to Blackberry's great OS Extinction in the works. IMHO, it seems that BB wants to become a software company holding/management company, and not really an innovator or quality supporter of its old customers? Hope I'm wrong.
In the meantime, I try to remain optomistic but as 2015 draws to a close, so too I think is the usefulness of what was a great phone for me. Next year, I guess I'll look at Androids and ALL the phones (including Priv and whatever else BB intrroduces), but BB is not a slam dunk after what I see is reluctant product support. Disappointing
