Every now and then my battery starts to drain faster and when I check the device monitor I find every time that BBM is using like 30% or so battery. Even though I am not using Bbm frequently I always have this problem of BBM using too much battery. Please suggest the solution. Thanks

I get that occasionally as well, on a Z30.
I'll notice my battery level far lower than expected and look to find BBM using a high % anywhere from 15-40% where the usual is < 1%.

@mcstravi. Exactly. Do you know how to solve it? Coz once the battery starts to drain it gets down from 50% to less than 10% in less than an hour.

I did restart but no success. Tried all the simple things like hard reset and taking out the battery etc but in vain.

On my z10 I've never had this problem, but recently experienced extreme could usage on another z10 after using glympse. Happened twice in a row, glympse session didn't end until the recipient tried to check the expired map

Do you have a lot of Contacts or Groups that have to sync? Do you have a number of subscribed Channels?

But I have seen others that have very little syncing and heavy BBM usage. Some have suggested sideloading a different version of BBM.. give that a try. Or wipe your phone...

@scalemaster34. I dont have a lot of contacts (only 4) and no groups or channels at all. Can you tell me how to sideload a different version of BBM? And which version should I sideload?

Also, I just use BBM probably to send and receive like 4 to 5 messages a day at the max and not more than that.

I wonder if BBM is being blamed for excess power consumption when really you might be in a poor signal area whereby your phone is working harder than normal to maintain BBM connectivity with Blackberry. I say this because I was travelling a few days ago and my battery consumption seemed unusually high on my Z30. I restarted my phone and the very next charge lasted more than 24 hours it would have lasted much longer (still 37% left) if I hadn't recharged it last night. This also happened while I was in a poor signal area so perhaps it wasn't the restart that restored my usual results but moving to a better signal area. If I recall I checked and BBM was also the top of my list at about 16% power consumption. Today it's back down to 0.19%.

This is a real issue, and it seems to happen to many people at the same time. I had this issue before on my Z30, and it started again last night. I don't have any apps linked to BBM, no wallpaper, only two chats open (which I refresh daily) and I don't save conversations. I feel like something BlackBerry is doing is causing this issue to happen and affect many users at the same time. In order to fix this I have had to do a hard reset - that seems to solve it for a few days.

I don't think that poor Internet connectivity is the problem coz all the other things are working fine. Some days it works absolutely fine in the same location like my office and other days like today it starts using battery without no usage. I know something is wrong. Hope someone knows the solution.

I do use Glympse fairly often, so that's a possibility. I subscribe to a few channels. I don't have very many contacts. Connection problems are unlikely as I am often using Wifi.
Restarting my phone has always addressed the problem until the next occurrence.

You'll have to do a search for BBM Bar files here on Crackberry and get one close to your OS.

But too be honest, if you don't know much about sideloading ..... a security wipe or a factory reset via LINK might be easier.

I turn on flight mode for a while. That turns off all radios and cools things off. Then restart your phone.

This started happening on my Q10 - but didn't happen for 1 year prior...strange. Perhaps a BBM update introduced a bug?
