I needed to sync my BB calendar with Google calendar and reached a page where BB requested to control some Google apps. Why?

I believe you've reached the screen where you're being requested to confirm access to your Google account from your BlackBerry. To sync, you'll have to allow this. The idea is to prevent an app or device from gaining access without your approval. After you've done so, you will likely get an email alert from your Google account to let you know access has been granted to a new device. Again, a safety precaution.
