Not opening an application & minimizing your brightness level. Those are also in the list of any battery life app. You also save memory space.

You don't need an app for that, all you have to do is follow these simple practices:

- turn OFF 4G LTE or 3G/H+ and switch to 2G if all you are doing is BBM.
- Connect to Wi-Fi when possible
- turn OFF Bluetooth and NFC (although I always left NFC ON because it doesn't have that much impact on battery runtime)
- turn OFF Location Services if you're not using Maps or Weather app.
- reduce brightness levels
- try to use an accessory which turns OFF the display when stowed, like the Z10 Flip Shell or the Leather Pocket pouch.
- this is quite extreme and I usually don't do this since it kills one BlackBerry 10 main feature but you can also turn OFF the Swipe to Wake option on Settings > Display.
