I have BlackBerry Z10 and it's been 3 years and 9 months now since 'he' was purchased..
I'm wondering when he might leave/die.

They dont have a set life span. Personally I still use my Z10 two years after I took it of the shelves. Save for a battery change or two, it still works amazingly well
I have a Q10, Z10 and getting a Passport. My Z10 was replaced once after my daughter dropped it and my Q10 works fine except for some damage to the headphone jack (reason for the new Passport) but I had my Q10 for well over 3 years with no issues until recently.

Well, up until maybe 5 weeks ago I was still using my 6 year old BlackBerry 9700. The reason I bought a Classic was because the original 9700 battery was dying. (but I've ended up buying a new BlackBerry battery for it now anyway).
And my BlackBerry flip still works perfectly well, and that's 8 years old.
So, to answer your question: your BlackBerry device is timeless! The phone, emails and text messages will continue to work flawlessly, but the Internet site features won't be revealed as they should be because your browser and other attributes will be outdated due to BlackBerry no longer updating the device software.
Also, the camera/video and music player are still perfect (and you can use bluetooth to direct the music output to speakers if you want).
So, all things considered your older BlackBerry devices are to be treasured! :)

5 years average I'd say, but most faults are caused by drops/wear and tear so if you look after it you might only have to replace batteries every few years
I've owned my own blackberries since 2008. All of them except for my z10 still work just fine. I bricked my Z10 but it was running just fine and I believe it would still run well.

18 months is what the manufacturers count on according to a friend in the industry. Mainly due to people wanting to switch devices or from them damaging them etc. On average most new phones have a life span of 3 to 5 years if taken care of.

I'd say BlackBerry typically produces phones that last longer than IPhones and Android. The DTEK50 might be different since they didn't really make it.

I m still not able to determine how many years more my BlackBerry Bold will work. Coz it's still working like new(touch wood).. z30 nd passport SE are new every time I switch them on in the morning.. so I guess wen 2g, 3g nd 4g services ll completely stop they may find their ultimate death..
BlackBerry Z30 fan nd a Proud Passport SE user
Blackberry phones last too long by design, which is good for the consumer in terms of saving money, but likely not good for the company trying to stay afloat against competition who successfully market its user base to upgrade every autumn.
All of my BlackBerry devices still work, going back to the Curve and even a bold that took a swim. They can't be killed.
