Install BBM on Android or iOS and use BBM's Glympse feature.
You can always text them telling them where you are or where you wanna meet. If someone is smart enough, they'll look it up.
Via text message: touch the paper clip and then share location

I sent a location from blackberry maps via text to a droid phone with no issues
Blackberry Passport running 10.3.1.2267
I think what's happening is both ways to send location is also sending a map, but the map is directing people to: http://maps.blackberry.com/? (truncated for privacy), and my friends only see this and when they click it nothing happens.

That's odd. Here's an sample address from maps.

when texting, hit the paperclip, select location, hit send, you sent your location to the person you where texting
Have you tried opening this link on a non BlackBerry? I haven't but feedback from people I send it to have been along the lines of, cannot open, or, links seems to be for BlackBerry only...

When you hit the paper clip in text messaging, you will come up on this screen.

I have just tried it with the url above.
iPad, iOS8, Safari: It takes a while to load. If you don't get to google in 10 secs, refresh the page. You will get an error message that it is invalid address and then redirected to google maps. Perhaps a direct address is needed to avoid the error message.
PC, Win7, Firefox: It also takes a while, but it redirects to google maps without problem.
