Will you be downloading shady apps from shady places which shouldn't be trusted? If not, then not likely. But if it eases your mind, you can load one up.

That ransom ware that's been in the news lately, does it only effect pc's or could it hit phones as well?

I thought the whole purpose of buying a BlackBerry was no need for Virus or Malware,

I don't want to have too put on anti virus or other forms of protection. I bought a BlackBerry for that reason also.

So. If I stuck to Google Play I should be safe? Currently have a Z30 but looking at the DTEK50.

I only use basic banking and news feed apps.

Just don't download random shady crap and it won't matter. Besides all these anti malware and Antivirus garbage act like viruses themselves in my opinion.

Good advice but someone in the Priv forms said that just uninstalling a Facebook messenger app can leave you vulnerable, luckily Dtek alerted them of it.

I'm assuming that the app is in the google play store

That's debatable and pure speculation on their part. In fact I uninstalled both facebook and Facebook messenger to test and did not get a compromised OS warning from Dtek. I'm assuming there is another issue for that person but they may have just happened to notice it after uninstalling Facebook.
