    Anyone know if this could be usable on any US network?

    The phone is completely functional and my 12 year old thinks it's cool looking.

    I might try to make it his first phone. Any thoughts?

    It is very cool looking and being a world edition it sports a GMS SIM slot. You can probably get it to work on 2G on all carriers but do check the frequencies supported.

    Now, it will be very lacking in what it can do compared to any other phone today (even by legacy BlacBerry standards). You may be brewing a BB-hater there.

    But heck, such a classy phone. Damn. Wish I had one.

    No. The only non-Alltel bands this phone would have would be GSM 900 and 1800--2G bands that are not used in the US.

    Sorry to hijack, just found an 8830 from verizon in a drawer. Great shape with great battery. Any idea besides media and brick breaker, what I can use it for? Could this be used on Verizon today? Thank you.

    Yes, but on their oldest of networks, at the slowest of speeds. Not worth it, unless you hand it to someone who needs a phone to just make calls and sends texts.
