    It's a RIDDLE. You didn't get it.

You even manage to take the fun out of a simple game.

It's a riddle that only works when spoken....

There are a number of ways to answer this old riddle, but it all depends on how it is phrased. His "GRY" with quotes around it would indicate the three letter would be found together, if he had used G-R-Y (or even just G R Y) then his riddle would have been correctly phrased "Using popular terminology" and his answer would have matched the riddle.

    Hah!
    Found two!
    And I quote...
"According to the Oxford English Dictionary , five words in the English language end in -gry. In addition to the common angry and hungry: aggry, a glass bead found buried in the earth in Ghana. puggry, a light scarf wound around a hat or helmet to protect the head from the sun."
    So...
    I feel enlightenment! Lol

RIDDLE: a question or statement intentionally phrased so as to require ingenuity in ascertaining its answer or meaning, typically presented as a game.

I agree with everyone having looked up the common answer but RIDDLES are not directed to the common!!
    They are puzzles.

Oh, I got it. I just didn't think it was clever or funny. Just badly written and containing nothing that follows logically.
