You should leave those fields blank and make sure you have your apn settings enabled and apn is at internet.globe.com.ph (postpaid). Alam ko iba yung apn ng prepaid, try to google it na lang if you are on prepaid.

Not related to Globe/Smart carrier but seeing as this is the Filipino community, you girls/guys can help me out.

My friend wants to buy a cheap second hand BB phone for now. I told her probably the cheapest now would be the 8520 as it's an older model. The only place I know of would be Greenhills but she runs the risk of buying one of those phones that have the PIN blocked. Anyone have recommendations of a good place to get one? Also how much a 2nd hand unit would cost? Another model could be suggested, just giving her options. I also don't know what her budget is right now. Thanks!

Well.. If the pin is blocked, all you need to do is call the provider who is blocking it (ie globe or sun) and then wait until the laptop department completes the request..

As far as units are concerned, 8520 is really the standard break in model.. It really depends on how "abused" the phone is.. You can prolly get one as low as like 5K if you're willing to risk it you can also try tipidcp.com which should have a lot of options

If she wants to know then she can try buying a one day prepaid while in gh to see if the registration works.

All you need is pin release in the Philippines, they're not strict with blacklisting. My niece's BB got stolen and I told them that I have the IMEI and PIN, I even asked if its provisioned with a different number and all they said was "uhhhh"

Oh wells, if she just wants to try it out. You can buy as much as 5k for a BB curve 8520 (that's based on a kaibigang presyo)

As I was doing it, and clicked on "Detect New Device" it always say unable to detect device. My question is, the account I have in globe.blackberry.com is the 9300 unit and my new unit is 9790, can I still have the BB UnliSurf plan? Or is it only for the 9300 unit given by Globe
you just need to do a device change or you can call customer service and ask them to do the device change for you.

I got the 9300 off them then i bought a 9810 then 9900. I called them as I was too lazy to do the device change for myself but that's only for emails.

On the other hand, your plan is with your number and if you already registered via Host Routing Table the PIN and IMEI should be changed automatically besides you're still using the same number. All you need to do is re-register it so that the new PIN and IMEI could be provisioned.

My concern is if the unit is from another country then those are more difficult to have unblocked. I've heard stories of such things happening before.

Thanks, I'll tell her to take a look at that site.

Thanks, will tell her. So it doesn't matter if say an American/European carrier blocked the PIN? I've read before that sometimes, you have to ask the seller to contact their carrier to get the PIN released or something like that.

    Hi

    First time poster.

I hope someone can help me. Recently got my first BB and everything works fine except I cannot set up my mail (go daddy and gmail). Everytime I try to register it always prompts as failed. I can't visit the branch where I got my bb and all I got from twitter/fb are template replies asking me my location and number.

Are there any ways to solve this without the need to physically visit Globe?

It doesn't work for BBMAX Prepaid. I'm also under Globe Telecom's BlackBerry service.
Darn. I've tried using "globe" as the username and password and even my BlackBerry ID login. Still no luck

With regards to gmail, you need to go to gmail webmail account, you then create a temporary password for your handheld device.

TuneIn app is fantastic! Doesn't stream ALL but majority of it. Not sure if it works on BIS, I use it over WiFi.

    Hello all,

I will be travelling to the Philippines for a month. I have two questions.

    1) will my unlocked 9700 work in the Philippines?
    2) what's the best plan to get for a heavy data user like me (I tweet, FB, and foursquare a lot!) who expect to text more than call when in Pinas?

    Thanks all for your help.

been connecting my Blackberry thru Desktop manager to tether my Blackberry's connection (globe BBMXAX)

ive downloaded like 3GB worth of movies just now, and its running @ 2-4 Mbps, 200-500++kBps download speed.

is it safe to say there no CAP?

and when i connect my phone thru desktop manager, why does it say that "roaming charges may apply, blah blah, it may be expensive blah blah"

well, in my experience, using it as a wifi hotspot is slow..

connecting it via bluetooth as a modem is really fast.

connecting it via usb is freakin fast.

downside? if modem mode is enabled, you cant use BIS.

Should work, I've had some friends from other countries coming in and using their BB. Best plan for you would be a prepaid plan, BBMax (unlimited BIS with Globe carrier), costs P599/month. This is only for BIS, you can buy additional credits for calls/texts. I think the cost for unlimited BIS for another local carrier, SMART, is P1,000-1,200.
