BIS in china since May 2012 is not available

I bring my 9790 from outside and try to register BIS service in china. But it doesn't work, I asked the carrier staff but they don't have any idea why, then I asked some blackberry seller in the black market, they said since may 2012 there have been problem with BIS in chn, all devices which is haven't been registered in chn before may 2012 cannot use the BIS. Is there anyone here who live in chn can give some solution please?thx

Vula, did you get a definite answer? I moved to shanghai 4 days ago and tried to set up BIS with China Unicom. so far, it has been a mess. i think I will start a new thread to ask for help.

Yes i think i got news for you, since ur pin had been registered before by others carriers so i can be re-register at the moment in china due to system failure. If you buy a brand new device then it will work out here without problem. That what learned from bb seller here, they also have no idea when this system failure will be fixed....thats all i know. Hope it helps

When did you hear of this? I don't think they will sit on this for months or even weeks to resolve this issue. Too many business travelers depend on it.

Anyone know of a good china Unicom store I can go to get help in shanghai?

Sorry for the late update...miraculously, my device started working on the first. All is good now.

However, my battery drains like crazy! I tried to see if there is an update to my software, however, there doesnt seem to be or that because I am in china and whatever update there is, being blocked in china? Anyway to find out what the latest software is and if any, download it manually?

Wow, good for you. How long did u wait until its worked? I had tried to register BIS from chn mobile but after 2 hours waiting still no sign of BIS service on my mobile so i canceled it out....

Took me a few days. In the end it all worked out. If you have a friend who has BiS or BES service here in china, try using his/her card with your device. Also try using your card on your friend's so you know the sim and the device are working properly.

My fist carrier in China was China Mobile and the service was terrible, the initial setup took over a month, meanwhile they over charge for sub-par service, they only offer 2G and connection to BIS only works on wifi, a basic plan will run you over $600 RMB per month and they over charge you big time. I switched thank God to China Unicom 8 months ago and there service is true 3G! I have connection to BIS/BES everywhere. The price is 1/4 of CM, the tech support and customer support is far superior. Also a note, China Mobile uses very old Enterprise servers, they have not upgraded to the new system and they will not support newer OS versions. Keep in mind to have the best functional Berry in China I highly recomend getting the BIS+BES plan even if you do not plan to use the enterpise side.

I've recently had issues with Chin Unicom as well, they really mess with the foreigners here. Super run around for small issues. Feels like '96 all over again.

Hey did you ever solve your problem? I have has similar issues with China Unicom. Went to the store and asked for BES and BIS services and said it costs 128 RMB plus a dataplan. They told me no it costs 98 RMB and I signed some papers. Later only BES services are working (no BIS) I went back again and was told oh if you want BES and BIS it costs 128RMB per month plus the cost of the plan but because I "asked for only BES"services my BIS will not work for one month. I said look I will pay the for an extra month I just need BIS/BES services but they would not do anything. Now finally I got a text message saying that both services are activated on my phone (I speak basic Mandarin) but when I call I am told I need to back to the shop. To make matters more frustrating the shop is only open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday.

I wish that Blackberry would just open up the Blackberry bridge to use a second blackberry as a dataconnection for another and I would not have to put up with this nonsense. Any suggestions you have will be super appreciated.
