As I sit here and watch "House of Cards" on Netflix a thought occurs to me. Why doesn't RIM pay for placement on TV and/or movies? The airtime that the iPhone gets on that one show is more than crazy, It's obscene. the phone itself and more screen shots than you can shake a stick at.

    Just a thought

It comes down to money... Apple and Samsung pay 100x more in ads because they have money.

Also, blackberry isn't focusing on advertising to the consumer market right now. They are focused on the enterprise market for now.

Maybe, but I seriously doubt they make their decisions based on which phone a character on a TV show uses.

WRONG. Product placement is CRITICAL. Phones have shown up on TV, in films, and in music videos. Several years ago, Justin Bieber's management approached BlackBerry and offered to put a BlackBerry device in one of his music videos for 250,000$. BlackBerry refused - that was about $1 billion in free marketing to millions of young people down the drain. Epic Fail.

BlackBerry has historically had more screen time than ANY company. By far I'd say.

Yet once the meltdown started, what good did it really do them? Slowed the bleeding a bit maybe(??).

That type of advertising is more reinforcement once you are on top or on the way up... That type of thing. It's not going to fix BlackBerry where they are. Though once they get things back in order, yeah they'll need to have the product placement still there.

Hardly critical, but, definitely a good thing for CONSUMER marketing, I'd agree. But we were talking about ENTERPRISE decision-makers here, not consumers. I promise you that no CTO or CEO is signing off on a phone or EDM software because Bieber has one in his video.
