Scandal, Blue Bloods, etc. Seeing old BlackBerry Phones used by characters THIS NEW SEASON... are these views due to the production prop rooms having some around in the junk drawer or what? Can't JC&Cie make these into product placements for the Passport & Priv to make BlackBerry appear to still be in business? Those older devices are VERY recognizable & emblematic of KB enabled phones of old. Can't we get Olivia Pope & Danny Reagan some new phones?

This isn't specific to BlackBerry devices. Older Android devices are used too. However, since there's little to distinguish between slabs, they go unnoticed.

Yes, slabs are slabs; on those shows the BlackBerry Phones stood out even though they appeared only for a flash. Product placement is a worthy exposure for those of the TV watching ilk. Movies too (I sadly quit going due to dangerous parking lots, noisy fauna, uncomfortable seating, sticky floors, etc.).

I've noticed the BB10 Classic on a few new shows. But so far no Passport and quite a few older keyboard based phones.

I watch the Kardashian's with the wife. She likes it and likes me there so she can lay on me! LOL But noticed they all use Bold 9900 and sometimes Porsche Design ones. You can tell they are doing business stuff on those phones because they never talk about what is on them. If they do its their business manager or some type of deal. But on their iphones its all the instagram and bla bla bla garbage they put out! Found it funny. All of them use those phones for the security aspect. Good to see.

I watched just enough of that Mr Robot show to want to vomit (no one cares if you use KDE or Gnome... the characters are over the top stereotypes...) and the BlackBerry they bashed was an old model. One Upon a Time also featured an old Curve model.

This happens a lot, probably due to them being free junk for props. They are also "characters" that are well known by the general public and they speak to the traits of the people who use them, so they are used as subtle character building props.

The TV show quality is immaterial. Product placement obeys a model of Nielsen ratings equivalent to online eyeballs...you pay for the exposure... showing BlackBerry in the hands of admired characters can pay off, showing what a BlackBerry patently CANNOT do during the superbowl, not so much... showing a new device that doesn't work in the hands of a knuckle head can cost the whole game...

BlackBerry missed the opportunity to buy a product placement in the new film "Jobs"...

also, jet.com has several non-working dummy units of old BlackBerry phones for sale... hint, hint movie producers, directors, prop masters!!
