BlackBerry needs to change big time to stay afloat?
- I am not sure how many followed the Web cast for Windows 10.
A lot of things are simply great.
- OS ui and functions now getting a better look
- OS more refined and works even on 1GB for desktop and 512mb ram for mobile.
- keyboard has swipe and a moving point like thinkpad had for mouse.
- new fast browser
- content getting synced across all devices. (web, photos, videos, files, Skype chat, office)
- mobile OS update is quite interesting now. It's not less than BlackBerry 10 in terms of customizations
- hub like messaging app
- Camera just getting awesome
- apps same across the board
- cortana though not on priority for users but it's a fancy thing to have
BlackBerry is understandably small and limited but that's not something we can make an excuse all the time. They talk of Enterprise, I am not sure what they have in terms of apps that make professionals switch. When BES -12 supports and secure all OS devices so no major difference.
Blend is quite half baked but now that WhatsApp has gone ahead in that for Messenger so its a hit to BBM.
BBM is half finished, groups is terrible, channels is not updated since a long time. Chat loading etc is not good. And its not reliable for voice video calls along with D n R.
OS updates are slow. I know it's not a easy job but as we need to move more fast to beat competition things need to come out fast and inclusive.
Apps, that's getting terrible day by day. Android is cool but hey its not that we buy BlackBerry
We need native stuff. Amazon partnership is still a doubt that why they did it. And how much good it has been so far.
While devices are interesting but we all know a full touch is awaited from a long time. And a lot of we loyal fans have been waiting for the upgrade to a full touch.
I am sure he is quite competent to lead but hey, it's not going great in Enterprise also (devices).
So what next?
- separate out BBM and let them bring awesome update very very soon
- BlackBerry 10.3.2 or 10.4 can wait a bit. Before that we need to have partnership with Google if we want to grow. They might support now when companies and consumers are looking for a change and Microsoft from year end is just the right company. And it could simply change big time for android but not for ios.
- tablet and 2 traditional touch phones with awesome hardware.
- talk more to consumers. It has come to standstill since john has come. That's where Microsoft raced ahead.
- big update to blend
- if you now talk Enterprise for hardware, please give something on OS and apps side as well
- Sony partnerships for camera would be great
- 1 cheap under $200 phone. (yes can't avoid it)
If all nothing is fitting right, sell off the company to Samsung, Sony or lenovo
If at all I could say, apple ios is limited and windows is new and an extension of ios in terms of customizations etc. So they are here for big time now.
Its seriously big time to act now. MWC is an event where we should hope to see and hear a lot of big announcements. Otherwise hardware is gone and they will survive on a small amount that comes from BES 12 for MDM solutions.
Yes 10.3.1 is awesome. But its quite late. And also apps is getting a big issue. A lot of apps are now not getting updated or getting withdrawn.
They need to tell android runtime is only for time being and once developers are confident of BlackBerry 10, it will be removed.
Developers are not coming out for BlackBerry coz of too many changes and also that device roadmap and OS update are too slow. For example, It is now that we are getting a call block app in the third version of BlackBerry 10. And we don't know what next?

- Interesting thoughts, but history repeats itself. BlackBerry is on the right path. Apple is not innovative, just good at design/ advertising . All features they flaunt in their devices and os's are always outdated and has been done by companies years prior. BlackBerry is not only innovative but working enterprise pushes for all the newest and latest and greatest. They don't bank on features that the masses won't utilize for a few more years. They integrate them. Bbos 10 has come a long way and has grown faster than any other os. Wp has grown substantially as well in such a short time. Apple has one thing right and that is a experience across-the-board on all their devices. Microsoft has accomplished this and windows 10 will show the world that. Selling blackberry is a mistake for BlackBerry. They will be gutted and used to lessor os's that are fractured. Partnerships are growing stronger and with that will provide more hardware and software capabilities. Yes Sony needs to be included on the camera side since Microsoft absorbed Nokia already. All former big brands and companies are making shocking and strong comebacks. It took for them to loose market interest to wake them up. Sony Nokia BlackBerry and Motorola are hitting hard and getting back consumers confidence again. Apple pushes updates the most frequent because every update messed up a core feature or experience and they needed to fix the issues. Take away the apps and all you have is an integrated core experience we all want smartphones for. BlackBerry and Microsoft have proven that the experience is important not just apps. Without apps apple has less to stand out on. Android only stays strong because of the variety of brands and their take but respectively Sony and Motorola have the strongest features integrated in that department. You are right about many things you mentioned ,but pushing to fast for something new without heavy R&D while 80% of consumers don't even utilize the features of their devices or even know of the features in their devices leads to heavy losses. Consumer education begins with Enterprise as all business professionals have to work with these devices and usually have to take home and work from these devices as well. Having one device for everything that works with enterprise and consumer applications is what drives devices and consumers to make their next personal device purchase. It's not about trends or keeping up with the jonses. Trends change too fast and many fail keeping up. Patience and enterprise will bring us what we want. Could BBM use some useful tweeks and updates absolutely. You made great and valid points. I have every device except I no longer own apple for the non ownership you have over their products. We are now getting second Gen bb10 devices and let's see what the 3rd and 4th Gen os's give us. Developers need a real hard smack in the face because of how close cascades and android Linux are in terms of programming. Developers needed to see a shift in devices and software offerings to care about bb10. It's getting there and we are just seeing the beginning of the shift for BlackBerry, let's see what it brings. Polished experience across-the-board is what we want and time will reveal all of this. If you are state side blame the carriers for their control of the device market and updates. I always say buy a GSM unlocked device and check if the cellular bands are compatible with your carrier of choice. BlackBerry puts out updates ahead of carrier updates. There are too many crippling factors that make this difficult for consumers to enjoy it. Never buy a carrier branded device. I own all unlocked devices from the manufacturer and have great experiences. Carriers take away from this. I'm very glad you brought up this thread. The Microsoft Windows 10 event was amazing. I look forward to seeing how this future will reshape the industry.
Posted via CB1001-22-15 07:36 AMLike 6 - Great post. You hit the nail on the head on many points. I would love to see a Mobile OS industry shift. I would like to see less iOS and Android, and more BB10 and WP10. I feel Apple's iOS have somewhat stalled and starved True Innovation within this Industry.
There are companies that will try and buy BlackBerry, just to bury/kill them, because BB10's superiority threatens them. This is why BlackBerry will never be sold, at least not in the foreseeable future, until the share price is $100 or more. But by then, it would be BBRY buying up companies, not the other way around.01-28-15 06:05 PMLike 0 - I missed the webcast but have been creeping up my count of MS shares as of late. They helped me get on my way in life when I was young. I sunk most of my money into them every payday. I never expected them to go away, just slow turning the yacht around. I hope to reap a windfall this time again.
BB always has been niche or entrepreneurial. Make advancements, then keep spreading out. The problem with them is Mike + Jim didn't sell out at the proper time and didn't know how to take it to the next level and they were looking elsewhere.
They have good products; QNX, bes12, handsets. I see them being around for quite a while, maybe not always in your face.

I just hope he won't show up to an event where all the major companies are releasing devices and show us a powerpoint. talk big, take a couple photos with a new device then pack up and leave us hanging even longer.01-29-15 05:18 AMLike 0 - I disagree. Totally.
Blackberry IS changing big time. The question you should be asking is "Is it making the right changes?"
Plus just how much on a collision course/convergence is MCRFT and BBRY on? You see what the latter does? You are comparing BBRY (a firm) and Windows 10 (An OS).
- OS ui and functions now getting a better look
Surely you admit this is largely subjective.and as part of your assertion that it impacts BBRY staying afloat unacceptable. We get it, you like it but leave it there.
Now 10.3.1 late as it is, is not too shabby.
- OS more refined and works even on 1GB for desktop and 512mb ram for mobile.
Kudos but RAM sizes going forward will be in excess of 1GB across the board. We all know that. Apps will then ensure at that 1GB threshold, the experience very negative. Desktop is not BBRY's turf but BB10 works on 1GB..
- keyboard has swipe and a moving point like thinkpad had for mouse.
Yes, yes, because of this BBRY IS doomed.
Totally.
- new fast browser
So Explorer has finally came to 2014? Oh good!
- content getting synced across all devices. (web, photos, videos, files, Skype chat, office)
>sigh< You must love Windows a lot and therefore looks nowhere else.
- mobile OS update is quite interesting now. It's not less than BlackBerry 10 in terms of customizations
"It's not less than BlackBerry 10"
Count that as a shot in the foot.
- hub like messaging app
hub like
Count another shot..
- Camera just getting awesome
I must agree.
- apps same across the board
I must agree although BB10 is on handhelds only, therefore lopsided comparison.
- cortana though not on priority for users but it's a fancy thing to have
Sure, BBRY must therefore change big time.
Don't take it personally, i had just had to make a point.01-31-15 06:41 AMLike 0 - Doesn't matter who is a big time blackberry fanboy or just a simple technology lover. Need to admit that blackberry is on the right way but Microsoft is much quicker in terms of fine tuning the mobile OS with small additional features or bigger improvements. They are on the right track too! WindowsPhone is not the same as it was in the 8.0 era. Improved a lot since. And I still love BB10 OS intuitive and new and smooth and easy to use but gestures and swipes won't be enough for too long!

- The only things blackberry needs to change is recruiting more developers and marketing like Apple does with a cute chick and an alternative song. There is plenty of room for 3rd and 4th players. Things I like about my BB....
Another reason why I LOVE my Blackberry...I have a nexus 2nd Gen tab and it was most recently updated to Lollipop. Well...long story short as possible...lollipop sucks. My Android experience goes back to the original Samsung Galaxy ( mesmerize) running 2.2. So the best versions of Android are 2.2 and kit kat...the rest are buggy, glitchy to the point of not being able to enjoy Apps. Then, a common gripe about blackberry is the lack of Apps. Well at least I can say their Apps work smooth, fluid and without a Glitch and more Apps are popping up on BB WORLD all the time. See now...Lollipop has just about crashed my Nexus...and now in order for me not to have a 250 dollar paperweight I have to find a previous version of Android (more stable) root it, and mess around with it...its a bunch of BS. Some other reasons I like my Blackberry...
1) the company answers the phone when I call
2) swipe is faster and better than anything android or Apple has to offer
3) Hub is faster and better than anything android or Apple have to offer
4) Better keyboard...with a swipe to delete feature
5)Does NOT crash, and if it did LINK backs up more info than google
6) good hardware,partially metal encased...not a cheap build
7) good radio and call quality...better than my s3 ever was
8) I installed a ruku app off Amazon...now I control my TV with my Blackberry...I know other phones can do this, but this is not glitchy on the BB.
And there is way more...this is just off the top right now
