I've not had one single crash, freeze, or OS failure. The iPhone lack's functionality that will get implemented with software updates.
The Blackberry however? It's crashed, it's froze, there's OS issues, JVM issues, I've seen a big number of JVM errors.. 102, 561, 507...list goes on and on. It's full of features, but at what costs? 5 minute reboots, frequent slowdowns, memory leaks, have to manage memory or you'll run out.. etc. This has been something that has happened on every single Blackberry within the last 5-6 years, from the old 8700c's, to the new devices. When will RIM FIX IT? Make the OS STABLE!
RIM's solution? add more memory.. riiiiiiiight...
It boils down to frustration. Blackberry's might have better things in some areas, but they cause frustration. Something my iPhone has never done.
People just can't accept the fact that Apple is setting the bar high.. and hate the fact that RIM, the market leader, can't meet that bar.Last edited by sniffs; 04-09-2009 at 10:53 AM.

No mate, really it isn't.
Leaving program open doesn't cause memory leaks, sloppy programing causes memory leaks. Leaving programs open consumes memory but thats entirely different from a memory leak.
The phone isn't capable by all accounts probably because the hardware is about equal to most devices but the OS is easily the most graphically intensive. I will bet anything that the next Iphone will multi-task in line with other smart phones. I means it's a rather large flaw don't you think?
Nearly every other phone out there can multi-task so the memory leak argument is really a non starter.
My bold and 8900 haven't been rebooted for sometime, yet they run IM clients and other apps in the background constantly.Cherish your visions; cherish your ideals; cherish the music that stirs in your heart, the beauty that forms in your mind, the loveliness that drapes your purest thoughts, for out of them will grow all delightful conditions, all, heavenly environment; of these, if you but remain true to them, your world will at last be built.

I have to wonder what sort of crap you run on your blackberrys to force reboots every 5 minutes.
On a well maintained device Blackberry's never suffer issues like the above. I should know, I've maintained a estate of over 5000 of them.
I'm sorry mate, I'm going to have to point the finger at you not running the device properly.
Other than Symbian, RIM have the most solid OS out there (storm excluded), hence them being the business standard.Cherish your visions; cherish your ideals; cherish the music that stirs in your heart, the beauty that forms in your mind, the loveliness that drapes your purest thoughts, for out of them will grow all delightful conditions, all, heavenly environment; of these, if you but remain true to them, your world will at last be built.

I didn't say that. Running multiple apps in the background DOES cause your phone to become slower. Most people forget to close apps and don't know how to manage their BB, which causes multitasking to drain your battery faster and slow down your phone. I have read up on this, I know what I'm talking about.

You are right the Bold is a very powerful phone and if the iphone had somewhere near the power of the bold it would probably be able to multi-task.
The 8900 or the storm are a bit closer to the iphone in terms of hardware but both are more powerful by all accounts, however what gives them a advantage is a fairly light OS versus the lovely all flashy one on the iphone.Cherish your visions; cherish your ideals; cherish the music that stirs in your heart, the beauty that forms in your mind, the loveliness that drapes your purest thoughts, for out of them will grow all delightful conditions, all, heavenly environment; of these, if you but remain true to them, your world will at last be built.

Were getting closer to the truth now.
Running multiple background apps will cause a overhead on the device in terms of memory and cpu cycles which can eventually cause the device to operate slower but if you do what most people do and run a IM client or the like in the background you wont notice any difference generally and on a curve or bold, it's not perceivable.
However this has nothing to do with any memory leaks but is a process of multi-tasking.
You are also correct running apps in the background will use more battery but not half as much as the iphones wonderful hunt the 3g signal game. Everything is relative and nothing comes free but lets be reasonable.
Multi-tasking is a modern function that people come to rely on in the same was as they do with a camera or surfing the net and to have not included it in the OS is a HUGE flaw for most who use them as lifestyle devices.Cherish your visions; cherish your ideals; cherish the music that stirs in your heart, the beauty that forms in your mind, the loveliness that drapes your purest thoughts, for out of them will grow all delightful conditions, all, heavenly environment; of these, if you but remain true to them, your world will at last be built.

I didn't say reboot every 5 minutes.. I'm talking about, if you need to pull the battery? it's not a quick 30 second reboot like my iPhone, it's 2-5 minutes.
I currently am the BES admin for over 2000 BB's, and have been since the 7100's and 7290's were around. I've been through all that generation, up until this current gen.
You telling me you've never seen a JVM error? 5000 devices and not once seen a JVM error? You must be the only one on the planet then. I've seen it very frequently. I've never seen an iPhone crash.
The Blackberry OS is not the most solid/stable os, by any means. It's the most featureful, that's for sure.Your lack of planning, does not warrant an emergency.

What? The Bold is a 624Mhz PXA930 CPU, the iPhone is a 620Mhz ARM cpu..
The iPhone has so much battery eating things on board, such as 3G, GPS as well as the PowerVR graphics chip that adding true multi-tasking wouldn't be a smooth experience.
The OS on the iPhone is clunky, and OS on the Bold is Java and very light weight, so it's capable of doing multi-tasking better.Your lack of planning, does not warrant an emergency.

Now don't go thinking "WTH does he know with only 7 post, STFU!" but I read more than I post and I save my words for more important stuff than just "1 sentence" post...
and Seriously?! it's not our fault that some BIG headed iPhone user decided to talk stink about the STORM in their forums. if you want to argue about the storm post it in our forums, otherwise you are just scared and want to talk stink under your own bedsheets so the boogie man can't flame you (in a figure of speech), apparently it didn't work!
but really, Storm and iPhone HONESTLY, they didn't advertise it as a iPhone killer like every other damn touch screen phone, nobody from BB/RIM ever pushed it to be a competitor for the iPhone. It was just those silly little kiddies who like to compare stupid and pointless things LIKE phones, it's like comparing a brand new prototype car to a Veteran like the Corvette or Viper, pretty much flaws waiting to happen compared to flawless.
now think, iPhone - Has been released for a good 3 years now, and you iPhone users HAVE to admit that when the very first gen iPhone came out, there was bugs, flaws, and problems out of the box, now I know what you guys will come back to me with, is "they fixed it quickly" or "not mine, it was perfect". whatever, if you had a perfect iPhone when it FIRST came out from those people waiting in line to get one, then congrats, but there were still people LIKE OUR FELLOW STORM USERS who had phones and lock up, die fast, or just plain stop working within a few days of purchase.
now my point I want to get to is, the storm is STILL NEW!!! fricken only about 4 - 5 months of being released? and people are STILL comparing it to be a iPhone killer when ITS NOT GOING TO BE! so GET OVER IT! I look at it as another phone to satisfy another persons needs who is for some reason against and WON'T settle with the iPhone or any other plain old boring "touch sensative" screen. Now don't get me wrong, I wanted an iPhone for some time and I kinda wish my iPod touch had a microphone for shazam and stuff and Sometimes I don't mind the normal everyday touch screen, but it gets REALLY old and boring after you've played with a storm for a while, and having a click screen to me is BRILLIANT! there's so many things that you can type but not mean to on the iPhone and it sucks, but then again they got the swiftness of the OS to back that up and is able to fix that within second(s).
but just remember, iPhone - 2 1/2 - 3yrs... Storm 4 - 5months?! idk, something like that. SO in my conclusion, you iPhone kiddies stop going around and yelling "IPHONE MURDERS STORM", it's like your saying MARIAH CAREY CAN SING WAYYYY BETTER THAN HANNAH MONTANA to people who ALREADY KNOW! what does the two have in common?! idk, I'll let you think you wise asses.
(mariah carey is older and hannah is still young, leave me alone with my lame points! >.<)
to iPhone users, Give the storm some time and it should be a better phone than it is now, maybe not better than the iPhone IMO but it will be a better storm then what it was released to be, JUST like the iPhone and it's beginning flaws.
to Storm users, GIVE THE STORM AND RIM SOME TIME!!!! you babies are crying as if the Storm has been out as LONG as the iphone/ipod touch and expect a freaking PERFECT OS NOW! seriously, our world has become more and more impatient, but really, just wait and use what sources you got, and REMEMBER, this is blackberry's first attempt and is still in the beginning of making a touchscreen and let alone having it click, that's a very unique thing that the iPhone will never have, and I'm proud to own a phone and say that it's better than your average touch screen...
I just really hope that RIM releases soon, but not in a rush because if they keep rushing it will never be perfected. so all you complainers SHUT UP ALREADY!
but I come here COMPLETELY Neutral to the Apple and Blackberry Phone industries not hating on apple, and not hating on blackberry. I'm also Neutral between Macs and PC's, it's such a childish thing when I see commercials about that stuff, but it's business, anyways off point.
I just HATE to see that people with their own opinions always have to compete and be better, when honestly there's things we can back up and use against each other, but you guys are so flustered with thinking "which phone is better?!" you guys leave out the facts that need to be stated, and honestly, the storm was probably one of THE worst phones to come out of the box with software 4.7.0.65, but has subsided to have people content with 4.7.0.75 until the next official release. I must confess that I HATED the phone when I first got to play with it, but then I gave .75 a try and liked it, and then found LEAKS then liked it EVEN MORE! maybe you unappreciative guys should go back to .65 and realize how much better the phone has become from the start.
but another fact is, people didn't complain and run to the internet when VERY FIRST gen iPhones were crapping out, because Apple will do ANYTHING and EVERYTHING to have a clean slate of record. But in reality I give Blackberry PROPS for having a strong business and have forums with people who have a potential of bringing sales down but still live STRONG with the blackberry name.
sorry if you looked at this post and thought "DAMN, too long, get a life." but I like to put many post into one to prove a point, not leave everything scattered... idk, makes sense to me.
if you think this was a waste of time, it was another second wasted by finishing this =P
Let's hope I can prove some kind of point with this, I'm not and never was thinking to change the world, but just to have people think differently then the "CRAP STORM WIN IPHONE" attitude. back those attitudes up with reasoning please =)Last edited by Jimepino; 04-10-2009 at 12:01 AM.

+1.. i love how nobody remembers the terrible issues that the iphone had at launch. What about keyboard issues? What about the fact that 30% or more of the phones had activation issues? But as soon as something comes along that has more potential than the iphone, they ridicule it because of "issues". I have had my storm since Jan. and I have had a grand total of 1 random reboot. Switching from landscape to portrait is equally as fast as my ipod touch if not faster, I can multitask, and best of all I dont have to jailbreak it for it to have full fuctionality. I'm also sick of iphone fan boys screaming "ahhh wait for 3.0", well if thats the case come back in 2+ years and see how the storm is doing than....

honestly the iphone multi tasking issue is an artifical issue made up by Apple. As you said the processors are close in speed. Both the Bold and iphone have 3g, gps, half VGA screens, bluetooth, etc. Theyre very similar hardware wise and radio wise.
The battery thing is an Apple excuse people have bought into to excuse no multitasking. Flat out, Apple doesnt wanna give it to iphone users. Theres no "issue" why its not there. The Bold seems to be able to do just fine with battery with similar hardware and multitasking, prob even outlasting the iphone with it.
Dont buy into the Apple hype on this one, its an excuse by Apple because they simple dont want you to have it. its not a hardware or battery limitation because other OSs have been able to do it just fine with similar hardware and radios built in.
And i dont think Storm users are thinking anything. Storm people bought the Storm because its a BB not because it was supposed to be an iphone competitor or killer. Its a touchscreen Blackberry, its not a media device or gaming device. Its just another adaptation of Blackberry form factor. And it WILL get better with time. The iphone OS has 2 years on the Storm. the iphone was FAR from perfect software wise in its first 6 months. - 04-09-2009, 02:55 PM #70Cherish your visions; cherish your ideals; cherish the music that stirs in your heart, the beauty that forms in your mind, the loveliness that drapes your purest thoughts, for out of them will grow all delightful conditions, all, heavenly environment; of these, if you but remain true to them, your world will at last be built.

I agree and wonder whats going on behind the scenes at Apple.
Why did they not include such basic functions like copy and past or MMS and then take so long to sort them out?
As for the multi-tasking issue, the bold has a lot more grunt than the iphone, I think comparing it to the 8900 would be a closer match. I wonder if the Iphones OS isn't very good at memory management which has caused the no multi-tasking issue.Cherish your visions; cherish your ideals; cherish the music that stirs in your heart, the beauty that forms in your mind, the loveliness that drapes your purest thoughts, for out of them will grow all delightful conditions, all, heavenly environment; of these, if you but remain true to them, your world will at last be built.
