If this holds to be true, that would be some crazy stuff. Verizon is really making a push at being #1 and staying #1. I could also see Apple wanting this (especially if rumors were true in regards to them turning the iPhone down at first) as Verizon is CDMA and wouldn't have to worry about anyone unlocking for another network.

never had VZW, but I like the design of the iPhone 3G a lot better than anything.
