I use my thumbs when I can, but at times I just hold it one hand and use the thumb on that hand, never index finger.

Thumbs. Used to always type in Landscape mode, but it's too annoying to turn it every time I get a text. I hate waiting for that second it takes to actually turn.

I do sometimes, mostly when I'm laying down in bed or something and typing in portrait. In landscape though, it's all thumbs all the time.

I've never used an index finger to type. On any of my phones. I've used my thumbs on all of my phones all the way back to my old school "gigantic" Audiovox. Two thumbs all the way, haha.

Two hands = two thumbs.

One hand = thumb and index finger.
Index finger is less clumsy when reaching to the opposite side of the keyboard.
I avoid portrait mode wherever possible.
