So I'm moving my wife and I over to the iPhone in order to take advantage of a deal made with our carrier.

Are there things that I can do to make the switch easier?

Well, if you're on Exchange, move all contacts to there. Same for Gmail. You can also save all contacts to Windows if you're using a Wintel computer, then sync them back to iPhone using iTunes. Moving contacts is really the hardest part. That and getting used to typing on the glass if you're using a physical keyboard.

That's the issue I'm having with the wife's phone. I recently set up a gmail account for her so that her contacts would sync to Gmail. Unfortunately, nothing has transferred over.

I syc'd all my information through outlook and then sync'd through itunes and everything transitioned fine.

Did you activate Google Sync and set up as Exchange? Once set up as Exchange, you have to turn on Contacts sync on the iPhone.

Picked up my i5 at an Apple Store, they had a device that transferred all contact info over on the spot. It was quick, painless & free.

I finally figured out what you guys were trying to explain. Long story short, the exchange from my email account went well, contacts uploaded and backed up to iCloud.

Unfortunately, my wife's phone only uploaded her contacts but won't back up to iCloud. Any insight on this issue?

Check in the iCloud tab in the settings app.
